About Us

South County Flowers is on the property formerly known as Belvidere Stable, Inc., where Nancy's parents, Richard & Nancy Sinkler, raised Thoroughbred horses for 30 years. In 2008, Dean & Nancy Viseth made the move cross country with their family from Arcata, California, back to the farm in Rhode Island where Nancy grew up and decided to start a business growing and selling cut flowers.

That first summer we grew only sunflowers and zinnias and after harvesting them we put them in the back of the pickup truck and drove around South County introducing ourselves to florists and selling our flowers. In the following few days the phone started ringing with calls from florists wanting more of our fresh flowers and we realized there was actually a market for our local farm fresh product. South County Flowers was born!

Since that first summer, we have expanded to growing a wide variety of specialty cut flowers and mixed bouquets from April - October in two hoop-houses, a greenhouse, in raised beds, and in the field. The Farm-to-Table movement has evolved to include flowers, and people looking for Field-to-Vase, sustainably and locally grown flowers in their area are increasingly seeking out farmer/florists for natural, sustainable, and fresh high quality wedding designs. Check out our Pinterest page and on Instagram to see pictures of flowers and day to day happenings on the farm.

Because they are never stored dry, lying flat in boxes, or subjected to long-term deep-cold storage, our locally grown stems are uniquely vibrant and long lasting. We bunch the flowers into water right in the field and deliver them to our clients in the same buckets they were harvested into.
